It's a tale of two commercials. On the one side, we have this supremely lame one from Daikin featuring Mr Inverter. In it, a blue glob shuffles through town and getting recognised by his/its friendly neighbours. There's all the "Hello, Mr Inverter!" and high-fiving and I nearly puked.
On the other, we have the extensive campaign selling the Whatever and Anything soft drinks. I havent gotten to trying it but that commercial where the dying father gives the spendthrift son Whatever, oh, that's gold! Haha! There was some bullshit about their outdoor advertisements (where cans are affixed to the billboards) being a health hazard and so resulted in some downscaling. A pity, really. That was some eye-catching advertising.
Cityspring Infrastructure Trust was recently in the news for their massively eroded profits due to a whooping expenses bill. The story goes like "revenue of $34.3 million for the period from its Feb 12 listing to March 31 was eclipsed by expenses of $100.4 million, which included $63.4 million in management fees. This gave rise to a net loss attributable to unitholders of $56.1 million. In its listing prospectus, CitySpring had projected a net loss of $3.4 million for the two months from Feb 1 to March 31 and management fees of just $566,000".
That, my friend, translates into 16 times the projected loss as at IPO time. Woah!
The whole situation arose because the performance of its units are benchmarked against the MSCI Asia-Pacific ex-Japan Utilities Index. It fell while the value of Cityspring units rose in the reverse direction. The units were therefore deemed to have outperformed the benchmark by 74.3 per cent over the period, resulting in the large performance fee payout.
That surely must be the easiest way to make money. Just sit back and let the punters do all the selling and buying so the stock price is at a profitable high. Collect $63.4 million when the dust settles.
Saturday was a real bore. Aldrin has morphed his sound so much it's really not his element, I feel. It was a mish-mash of electro, progressive and indie but it's the deep dark tribal house I want. Before he became this big, nites for his gig are just incredible. The lights are off, the floor is rocking and the deep dark hypnotic beats resonate. Now, it's all so blah. *Yawn*
